The Director, Infection Prevention is responsible for the Infection Prevention (IP) programs across the medical center and continuum of care; this includes surveillance and development of evidence-based risk reduction measures for healthcare-associated infections, and oversight of all mandatory standards, programs and regulations relevant to Infection Prevention. This job provides overall direction and leadership for day-to-day operations of the IP department. The director provides leadership to develop and implement strategies and policies to accomplish delivery of services at best possible levels of cost effectiveness and stakeholder satisfaction. This job places strong emphasis on the achievement of aggressive development and dissemination of best practices, and the cultivation of a highly effective work unit.
This position establishes the Infection Prevention (IP) Program design and priorities. Develops plans for, and directs the implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of, organizational surveillance and related risk reduction practices. Directs data collection and analysis, and the distribution of findings and recommendations to the appropriate individuals, committees, and departments.
Demonstrates effective leadership skills of delegation, organization, and coordination of inter-departmental activities related to minimizing risk and overall management of infection prevention and prevention practices. Directs the development and implementation of policies, procedures and plans to ensure compliance with federal and local government mandates and regulatory requirements relevant to Infection Prevention (CDC, TJC, DOH,). Assists acute care and ambulatory departments in survey readiness and preparation.
Manages daily operation of IP , providing leadership and direction for all human resources issues within the departments. Recruits, hires, trains, disciplines and supervises staff, including completion of performance evaluations and competency assessments. Maintains and updates staff standard work procedures; staff training programs and quality assurance programs.
Provides financial leadership to ensure achievement of monthly and annual budget goals.. Ensures cost-effective daily operations and allocation of section resources; develops goals and objectives to correspond with organizational goals and department standards.
Co-chairs the Infection Prevention committee. Acts as a contributing member of the Quality, and Environmental Health and Safety Teams. Ensures participation by IP staff on related committees, as appropriate..
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or public health field or equivalent in education and experience require. Certified Infection Prevention (CIC) certification through APIC and/or Employee and/or Occupational Health certification required. Three to five years Infection Prevention experience required. VMPS for leaders within one year of hire. Excellent organizational skills, and strong aptitude for detail. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with all levels of VM staff, and representatives of external agencies. Strong skills in data analysis.
Preferred:
Master's degree. Current valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington. Five to seven years of Infection Prevention and/or Employee Health experience preferred. Three to five years of increasingly responsible management experience with proficiency in budget management and planning preferred.
