Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, this position will provide strategic and operational direction for several HR functions including Compensation, HRIS & Analytics, and the HR Service Center. This position is responsible for development and deployment of initiatives, standard processes, and workforce analytics to optimize service levels in daily HR operations and inform sound people business decisions across the organization. In collaboration with HR Leadership Team, this position helps set the overall strategy and direction for daily HR support of VMMC’s strategic plan.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Provides leadership to the HR department as a member of the HR Leadership Team, affecting HR vision, initiatives, programs, services and budget expenditures. Participates on organizational guiding teams and committees, providing leadership and input on behalf of HR.
- Directs, develops, and evaluates compensation programs, policies and procedures that ensure VMMC’s ability to attract, retain and engage our team members.
- Participates in human resources strategy development and execution, aligning daily operations, HR technology, and workforce analytics with the organization’s strategic direction. Drives analytic practices to actionable insights and recommendations.
- Manages a team of professional employees and/or supervisors. Leads and develops employees into a highly effective team by setting clear performance objectives and goals, regular and honest feedback, and individualized development plans.
- Continuously builds HRMS self service capability, leverages knowledge of key workforce measures to optimize performance, and creates linkages between workforce planning, talent management needs, and organizational strategies by effectively utilizing and growing available technology and business intelligence.
- Manages the use of internal and external resources related to daily HR operations, HR technology, compensation, and analytics. Selects and coordinates the work of external vendors to meet business needs. Provides input to the development of the annual departmental budget and contingency plans, monitors results regularly.
- Leads team and departmental process improvement initiatives using the Virginia Mason Production System (VMPS). Applies VMPS principles to daily work.
- Produces and/or analyzes and monitors applicable metrics in order to make appropriate operational business decisions.
- Monitors organizational compliance with human resources policies, standard processes, and practices, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, a related field or equivalent experience required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. S/PHR, CCP, CBP, or other related credentials preferred.
Experience: Three to five years of management experience in Human Resources required with most recent experience in similar sized organization preferred. Experience in healthcare and leading in a lean environment preferred.
