The Medical Assistant assists providers and other members of the health care team in clinic offices by performing a variety of back office, patient-related tasks and ensuring smooth patient and work flow within the department.
1. Performs a variety of patient care procedures within the Medical Assistant (MA) scope of practice, including but not limited to: injections (per HCA certification requirements), EKGs, ear lavage and blood draws.
2. Measures patient vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature).
3. Manages rooming and patient flow, including pre-visit preparation, assisting with the patient visit, and post-visit duties.
4. Informs provider of schedule changes that impact patient flow.
5. May assist with front office activities and varied scheduling tasks.
6. Reports test results as directed by the provider.
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program required. One year experience in a health care environment preferred. Must be eligible for Washington State certification as a Health Care Assistant Levels A, C, and E, including completion of required Washington State AIDS training. Must submit application for certification as Health Care Assistant Levels A, C, and E within two weeks of hire. Knowledge of third party payer requirements required. Strong aptitude for detail, and ability to work independently, required. Strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills required. Skill in using a PC required.
Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred.
