The Supervisor, Central Services is responsible for 24-hour supervision and overall operations of Central Service functions, or of a major Central Service component, which may include distribution, processing and sterilization. Ensures that distribution, sterilization and processing meet VMMC standards and provides exemplary customer services.
Supervises the day-to-day 24-hour operations of a Central Service Processing or Distribution function in the assembly, sterilization, decontamination, ordering, and/or delivery of hospital or clinic instruments, equipment, and medical supplies.
Supervises and develops staff scheduling; provides leadership and direction and acts as a resource to staff for all daily operational needs; ensures staff completion of appropriate training and provides opportunities for continuing education and development for staff.
Provides management expertise for human resource issues within the department; recruits, hires, trains, disciplines, and performs performance evaluations and competency assessments; maintain and updates staff procedures manuals, staff training programs and quality assurance programs.
Assists manager and section head with budget development and management; assures cost-effective daily operations and allocation of section resource to optimize available staff with demand for service.
Assists with the development and supervision of "standard work" procedures for Central Service Processing and Distribution; ensures department follows all local, state, national, and manufacturer regulations and best practice recommendations.
Maintains and develops positive Central Services customer service policies that produce quality outcomes; ensures hospital or clinic instruments are being reprocessed in a timely manner; ensures that VMMC staff are satisfied with all aspects of inventory and distribution.
Associate's degree or equivalent required. At least 3 years of Central Service Processing or inventory/supply management experience to include leadership or supervisory role, preferably in a hospital or medical center. Demonstrated customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communications skills. Additionally, this position requires effective problem solving and training skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word applications.
Preferred experience and knowledge are: Surgical Technician and/or surgical supply, advance knowledge of the inventory control programs (Windows), Perpetual Automatic Reordering (PAR) reduction program, Matkon system, and SSI. For positions in Sterile Processing, Certified Registered Central Service Technician through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM), or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Supervisor through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), strongly preferred.
