This position provides direct patient care services to persons with or suspected of having hearing and/or balance disorders. The incumbents in this position are responsible for the management of individuals with hearing loss when the loss is not medically treatable or who continue to have deficits following medical surgical intervention.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of auditory and vestibular systems.
  • An understanding of the pathological states of these systems.
  • Working knowledge of the medical systems related to these pathological states.
  • An understanding of the techniques in evaluation and treatment of these states both medical and non-medical.
  • An understanding of the projected outcome of intervention both long and short term.
  • Aworking knowledge of the chronology and timeline for the normal development of speech, hearing and language skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic electronics to modify and fit hearing aids.
  • An understanding of the impact of the disease processes, environmental influences and medication influences on the human auditory system.
  • An awareness of the psycho-social impact of a hearing loss on an individual's ability to function.
  • Working knowledge of communication/education options for helping children with hearing loss reach their potential.
  • Working knowledge of devices and products available to meet the needs of people with hearing loss.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required for this position, as well as skill to properly assess and treat a wide variety of patients with various degrees and types of hearing loss.
  • This position requires a licensure for dispensing hearing aids within the State of Washington.

 

Prefered candidates will have experience working with patients with Cochlear Implants (evaluation and management) plus experience evaluating and managing children with hearing loss (Case load: 20% Ped/ 80% Adult). This position requires working in both Federal Way and Seattle (Main campus) locations. Must be able to work well independently and as a team. Some Saturdays required.
