Founded in 2008, the Virginia Mason Institute is a non-profit organization that teaches organizations about the Virginia Mason Production System, a lean management system to transform healthcare. Our goal is to advance quality, safety and value by sharing our knowledge and experience. The Virginia Mason Institute is wholly owned by Virginia Mason, which has used lean in its organization since 2002.
The Sr. Instructional Designer will own the end-to-end process for developing, implementing, and evaluating training and education courses provided by the Virginia Mason Institute to both Clinical and non-Clinical professionals worldwide. Designs the training and education courses for various audience settings including classroom, online, and small groups. Capable of enhancing the delivery of materials using a variety of multimedia formats including, presentations, simulation, videos, sound, animation, etc.
Works closely with the content developers, VMI Faculty and Leaders, to create, deliver and assess the training and education courses. Evaluates opportunities to integrate, refine and optimize the curricula for different audiences and media. Asses the education and training needs of VMI’s target market through surveys, focus groups, executive interviews, etc?
The reponsibilities of this role includes but is not limited to:
- Assesses needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers, Faculty and/or customer representatives.
- Evaluates training materials prepared by Faculty, such as outlines, text, or handouts.
- Organizes, develops, and/or obtains training manuals, guides, and course materials such as handouts and visual materials.
- Delivers materials using a variety of formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group dialogue, videos, etc..
- Monitors, evaluates, and/or records quality and effectiveness of VMI’s learning sessions.
- Monitors costs to ensure budget is not exceeded, and prepare budget reports to justify expenditures.
- Works closely with Faculty and Management to prepare and improve learning sessions.
- Develops alternative methods if expected improvements are not seen.
- Creates, develops, maintains, submits and/or publishes system and course development related communication and documentation such as newsletter articles, email notifications, standard work, user guides, tools, checklists, forms, and master spreadsheets.
- Supports Kaizen activities by identifying quality and process improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience required. Must have demonstrated ability to apply creative instructional themes and strategies to a variety of delivery media including classroom and online.
Required Work Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in instructional design
- Experience developing content/training for multiple delivery modes such as: instructor-led, web-based training (WBT) and blended learning solutions.
- Experience in the design and/or development phases of an ISD model such as ADDIE, Dick and Carey, Gagne, or equivalent
- Strong Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) is required
Highly Desired Work Experience
- Experience with web/multimedia development tools, including Articulate Studio, Adobe Captivate, and Adobe Creative Suite (Flash, Photoshop, Fireworks).
- Experience with Adobe Connect or other virtual classroom tools (e.g., WebEx, GoToTraining).
